"The
Story behind the Name!"
Names
are important! They identify who we are and our place in
family or community life. The name "Landmark" is
no different. It was chosen for biblical reasons and the
history behind the business. In the Old Testament, the
people of Israel were warned not to remove 'landmarks'.
Moses wrote, "Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's
landmark, which they of old time have set in thine
inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the
LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it." (Deut.19:14) Later
in the same book he wrote; "Cursed be he that
removeth his neighbour's landmark. And all the people shall
say, Amen." (Deut.27:17). The wisest man to live
picks up on the same theme in Proverbs. "Remove not
the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set."
(Pro.22:28). He also writes, "Remove
not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the
fatherless:…(Pro. 23:10).
Landmark,
as defined by the dictionary, means "a conspicuous
object serving to bound or identify a place." That is
the basis for choosing the Landmark name. First, God has
blessed Carlyle & Martin, Inc. with an enormous increase
in business over the past five years and along with that
growth has come the ability of employees to work together as
a team in "less than adequate" space. We thank God
for his goodness and blessings.
Secondly,
John Deere dealerships have been established through
generations of hard working individuals. Harold is a
"father" (in-law) who has worked
tirelessly and has established a "landmark" in the
Hagerstown community. Without him this 'inheritance' or
opportunity would have never been available to me.
Lastly,
in looking to the future, God has graciously given us the
opportunity to acquire land that is very suitable for
building a new dealership store. With land in the Hagerstown
area at a premium, this has been a gift from God. It was
provided for us to "possess' and to do business as an
equipment dealership. The site plan will be finished soon
and construction will begin shortly.
We
humbly accept this responsibility as a trust to be
faithfully administered and will continue to give
credibility to our past as we find direction for the future.
"To God
be the glory, great things he is doing….". Dave
