The current Landmark Equipment,
LLC is a merged corporation of two different dealerships
with a great deal of experience and history with the John
Deere brand. On January 1, 2007, Landmark Equipment, LLC of
Hagerstown, MD, formally merged with the 3-store dealership
of Clugston Ag & Turf, Inc. in Pennsylvania. The following
paragraphs give you a little more information about the
individual merging partners.
Landmark Equipment, LLC, has
been a John Deere dealership for over 40 years. Landmark
Equipment, LLC, was formerly known as Carlyle & Martin Inc.
and owned by Harold Showalter. In January 2005, David
Quirple, Harold's son-in-law, purchased the dealership and
renamed it Landmark Equipment, LLC. For more information

The Landmark Equipment, LLC store remained on Maugans Avenue
in Hagerstown and saw substantial growth from 2004 to the
present date.
Just north in Pennsylvania,
Clugston Ag & Turf, Inc. was also a successful dealership in
active expansion. Clugston Ag & Turf, Inc. was a John Deere
dealership for nearly 40 years. The dealership's previous
name was Clugston Implement until bought by the second
generation, Dale Clugston, in 1989. In 2001, Clugston's
expanded from a one-store dealership by opening a new
venture by the name of Cumberland Bobcat in Carlisle.
Cumberland Bobcat has since moved to a site in Mechanicsburg
to better serve Cumberland and Dauphin Counties. In 2003,
Clugston's purchased the former Gutshall's Inc., the John
Deere dealership in Carlisle.
In 2006, the owners of both
dealerships saw the positive ramifications of merging. In
today's competitive equipment market, multi-store
dealerships have better resources in all areas of business.
The owners recognized that their personnel, parts and
equipment stock, services, and experience would be pooled
together to better serve the surrounding agricultural,
homeowner, and commercial communities. Working hard toward
the end of 2006 to hammer out the details, the owners signed
the paperwork on December 27, 2006 to officially merge
effective January 1, 2007.
The owners of the new Landmark
Equipment, LLC, are Dan Place, a former owner of Clugston's
and the current General Manager of the corporation; Dave
Quirple, the former owner of the Hagerstown, MD, Landmark
Equipment dealership and current Store Manager in
Hagerstown; and Les and Jeanette Clugston, former owners of
Clugston's and the third generation of Clugstons involved as
owners. Les is the current Store Manager in Carlisle.
In 2007 the changes continue to
come. In February, 2007, the Hagerstown location of Landmark
Equipment moved to its new location on Cearfoss Pike in
Hagerstown. A beautiful new building and setup called "John
Deere Place," the new building and location will better
enable the Hagerstown location to serve the entire
community.
The employees of Landmark
Equipment, LLC, are working hard and coordinating their
efforts to make the 4-store dealership the best place for
you to buy, bring, and supply your equipment. The depth of
knowledge and experience in the Landmark Equipment personnel
promises to make the dealership extremely successful in
serving the needs of those who walk through their front
doors - regardless of the location!
